Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty @ Harvey Nichols (London, UK)

If, like me, you're not in New York at the moment (or anytime soon), you're most likely feeling a little bummed to be missing the Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty exhibition, currently on display at the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. If you happen to be in London though, here's the next best thing: in order to celebrate the opening of said exhibition and as a way to commemorate the late Lee McQueen, Harvey Nichols has 15 of his pieces on display, spanning over a decade. The UK department store is the only one to have been chosen for this honor - and though the showcase won't match the real thing in NYC, the pieces in the windows are still stunning to behold.

Of course if you're not in NYC or London, I would highly recommend purchasing the Savage Beauty book, which is easily available (and on sale!) via Amazon here.

Below you'll find all the pieces in the Harvey Nichols store windows, including shots of some of the beautiful details. The windows will be up until the end of May, so head on over if you get a chance - they're definitely worth a look.

  2. Thank you for telling about it, darling! I will definitely do my best to get to London soon. I must must must see these gorgeous dresses in person! And I'll certainly be buying the book too.
I have such a strange coctail of emotions in my mind right now... I remember how some clothes brought all kinds of thoughts when I first saw them on style.com or in some editorials, remember how you talked about Fall2009 collection here....and then I also remember how I heard the shocking news about his death.
How beautiful his works are and how sad to lose such a genius!

  4. St Martin's is a national treasure, drawing Mr. McQueen and so many others in with their wild talents ready to be doing Haute Couture in their twenties. Heartbreakingly beautiful. Beautiful photographs. Sad ..

  19. i must say that these pieces are the epitome of a magnificent art. After the royal wedding, i believe McQueen's collections will even hit a score high. i have never seen such window display in my entire life and it is very avant-garde graded. Love all of them but not sure if i can digest 'It's only a game', find it hard to relates to my personal taste. Anyway, all are a masterpiece!

  31. Absolutely incredible, the details and craftsmanship. The wooden panel skirt made me smile because it's so much like the little novelty knickknack fans you can buy from Chinatown souvenir shops! If I were to pick pieces from this that I'd want to wear, I'd choose the jeweled flats and houndstooth dress.

    ReplyDelete
  32. there is so much awesomeness here (wait...is that a word?!) that i can't even choose a favorite! it would be so nice to see these two exhibitions in person. if that isn't possible, i'd settle for taking home those AWESOME jeweled and sparkly flats!!!!!!

  33. Beautiful! My favourites are still the digital prints, but the Horn a plenty collection is just so opulent you have to love it!

  34. So amazing! You should come to NY. I can't wait to visit now that I'm back from CA :)

  35. The wooden skirt from SS99 is fantastic. I have a picture in an old scrapbook (when I used to clip pictures from fashion editorials before blogs) of this strange, wonderful body harness/wings that must have been from the same collection. He was such a visionary. Wish I could make it to NY for the show.
